Shoppers Still Afraid to Shop.... If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain. - Maya Angelou
Over the years we have all been complaining about how @#*% up things are in competitive flag. Everyone debating about which flag association is cheating us the most and how we have no options. Flag presently has no national structure, no national unity and no national organizations making decisions for the betterment of the game. Now, not only do we have an option, we can contribute to the change and help shape things the way we want it and yet the Union still has all these "Window Shoppers" peering in waiting to see what's going to happen next; to see if its safe to come in. Like an abused women, some of us are afraid to force a change for fear of being punished by our oppressors. And as soon as something does not go right we are quick to use that to justify our lack of courage for staying put. I read an article here that talked about the business strategies of the national organizations and I'll be damn if it did not have a lot of substance to it. All of sudden I see these organizations have expanded their 2006 schedules 10 times that of its original content with every style played in flag. I wonder why? You know what that tells me? It tells me that they are panicking and for the first time have no clue as to what they should do but throw more worthless tournaments. They completely missed the boat; rather than giving their customers more, they give them more opportunities to give them money for the same BS they've been complaining about! How many tournaments can a team literally participate in in a single year? But what's funny, to a point that strategy will work. Some teams will pay more to get more points and conclude as they always do - in the same place, with the same teams and the same results. I'm not knocking what anyone likes regarding flag, but if you complain about it you should be doing something else other than writing more checks. For some reason, that just doesn't seem to add up to me. So now all these "Window Shoppers" are waiting until its safe before coming over, and like stock in Microsoft, I hope its too late. But I bet these same "Window Shoppers" will still want the same benefits as the ones that are here in trenches with the Union now. What's the point in participating in national tournaments if no one in the nation cares? You may as well line off a field, pay some high school refs per game on Sunday's, call yourself the national champion and save your money! But what the hell do I know right? Everyone is waiting to see what's going to happen and I can honestly say, not a damn thing as long as you sit around watching others work. If you really think these organizations running things now will up and change anything and risk losing easy money to make the game better for you then you are just as delusional as they are. |
