Why do the “Old Heads” Refuse to Budge?
The new era of flag football is officially underway and some of you don’t even know it. If you are one of those that don’t know what time it is, you are still abiding by the laws of the Old Testament. You know sacrificing the female virgins, keeping women silent in church, participating in a good public stoning and banning teams and players for refusing to pay for nothing.
This is 2005, and if you even know an adult female virgin you’re a lucky man, ain’t nobody in church but women, tossing one stone, let alone several will only get you and everybody else shot and attempting to ban teams or players for not allowing you to perform the “jack-move” is as ridiculous as Mike Tyson’s comeback effort. Now all this makes sense to the new generation of flag-ballers, but it still has yet to grab the attention to the “Old School Rulers of Flag”.
So what is the “Jack-Move”? Well for example, teams being banned for not paying $300 + hotel fees (per player) for a certain organization, while league directors have been dismissed for refusing to pay for items such as mail-outs (when we have the Internet) and invisible points. Talk about Mail-outs, man the only thing that comes in the mail any more are bills, coupons and old people running for state and county positions and they all suffer the same fate, the garbage.
“Generation X-ers” are not about to open a physical letter when they can open a virtual one called e-mail and they are not playing or paying for nothing. They look for higher returns on their investments and the “unique selling proposition” which means they ask “What’s in it for me”? And the answer over the last few years has been “Not a damn thing, take it or leave it”.
I wonder if some of these old organizations even know what market research is? If they did, they would’ve at least attempted to upgrade their services, offer more to the teams and help all involved benefit for their efforts. Hell, just shoot out an e-mail and ask somebody, they will tell you.
This is the “Quid Pro Quo Era”, which means “something for something” and if I’m not getting nothing, you're not getting nothing, “how bout dem apples” as my Pops used to put it. But again, these old-heads could care less about what some of us want, just pay them their money and they will “let” you play. Even the Catholic Priest are changing their views on issues such as marriage for obvious reasons, and you mean to tell me that these Old-Heads refuse to even reconsider thier traditional values?
Just listen to these dudes talk; they actually talk as if they “own” teams. Don’t call my teams, don’t post on my site, I won’t help you promote your tournament, we don’t deal with your kind, don’t play in my yard or I will call the police, bah humbug! Just some old Trout-mouth, Scrooge-faced dudes with some serious issues that don’t want to work with NOBODY. Every time you talk to these dudes you can actually feel their old hands patting you down and digging in your pockets. Man, I lost $50 on a 5-minute phone conversation one time; don’t know where it went it just evaporated! I hurried up and got my butt off the phone before he got to my 401k!
How can they keep somebody from playing flag football and declare ownership of teams? How can they keep operating the same way this late in the game? You can just type in "flag tournaments" on Google or Yahoo and get 500 some odd tournaments to play in and better yet, start your own league as they did with the Union.
Now you and I both know people in the Dirty-Dirty will rebel in minute; they ready to up rise about anything. They don’t like the back of the bus, you don’t sell sweet tea, they refuse to pay a lot for that muffler and they ain’t playing if you ain't paying. Oh, but don’t expect a boycott or a “Million Player March” from these young players and league directors. With the technology at hand they know a business can be started in about 5-10 minutes, give or take a minute or two.
Now don’t get me wrong, some of you dudes do things that should have you banned from the game all together, but I’m not talking about you. I’m talking about the ones who know BS when they smell it and refuse to step in it.
But all “Can’t Get Wright” is saying is, if you are one these “Old Schoolers” who refuse to change your views, just look around and see what’s happening. It’s a teams market and leagues had better realize this before its too late. You should be promoting the game, not trying own it. Its enough for everyone to go around.
You are not the only show in town so don’t act like it and give something back to the teams and players that have supported you for all these years or be fossilized by the new movement. |
