Who Can Take The Champs in Denver? After enduring treacherous weather and stiff competition in the Dallas World Championships, All-Met walked away with a well-deserved World title and bragging rights for 2006. But along with that title came a bulls-eye the size of Texas on their backs, which will have every top team in 8-Man Eligible gunning for them.
As we approach the MCFFU Mile High Classic 3 teams stand out as being the front-runners to knock off the champs and position themselves atop the national power rankings in the MCFFU National Tournament Series.
Quick 6 (UT), who lost to All-Met in the first round of the WC 14-8 are looking to position themselves among the nations top teams by not only knocking off the Champs in a rematch, but capitalizing on this golden opportunity to prove themselves as a serious force in 8-Man national competition. Of the 3 teams, Quick 6 would benefit the most with a tournament win or an appearance in the championship game.
The Denver Gamblers (CO) look to face All-Met for the first time ever and put to rest the all the speculations of who would win if they should meet. Both teams possess a physical defense and extremely mobile QB’s. The Gamblers knocked off All-Met’s runner-ups Sudden Impact (IL) in a nail-bitter but came up short on their way to facing All-Met in the later rounds of the WC’s. Should they meet early in this tournament, the loser of that game will not make the final 4.
Finally we have the Houston Sleepers (TX) who fell victim to All-Met in the championship game 20-0. By the time the championship game rolled around, the weather was at it its worst and unfortunately for the Sleepers it did not effect All-Met’s offense as much as theirs who where able to put it away early with consistent running from the their All-American QB in the ankle-deep soaked fields.
The Sleepers who operate one of the best spreads around were made one-dimensional due their lack of a running QB or an overall running attack for that matter. The harder the winds gusted and rain fell, the harder it was to complete passes and the tougher, more aggressive the All-Met defense became. All-Met proved to be an all-purpose, all-weather team, while the Houston Sleepers proved that they are not, however the question remains - in the right conditions could the Sleepers turn the tables?
Championship Game: Sleepers vs. All-Met in a close one – (20-18) All-Met. |
