What is the Flag Football World Championship Circuit?
Metro Competitor Flag Football Union: The first season of the Flag Football World Championship Circuit will include 7 National Championship tournament stops that will bring together the games biggest names and it’s most exciting play-makers to compete for the World Championship title in major cities throughout the U.S!
The WCC consists of independent flag football organizations and individuals partnering with the MCFFU/USSSA to host sanctioned events throughout the country, creating the single largest flag football network the sport has ever had!
The 2008-09 World Championships will begin this February in Baltimore, MD and conclude with (2) spectacular World Championship events in Orlando, FL (January 2010) and the fabulous Las Vegas, NV (March 2010)!
The circuit will also offer several Invitational Tournaments that will support each of the National Championships offering bids and prizes ranging from a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand for select events (based on the hosting organization/Tournament Director)!
At the conclusion of the WCC in December/January, the top percentage of teams will qualify for the Pro Division in the World Championships! Based on each team’s performance on the circuit, they will be categorized in the World Championships (A, B or C). The requirements are:
- Team Win/Loss Record
- Total Point Accumulation (C.E.P.)
- Total Tournament Wins
All teams will be able to compete in the World Championship’s even they may not qualify for the Pro Division (Open/Competitive and Recreational Division). The World Championships are OPEN TO ALL TEAMS, however the Pro Division is for qualifying teams only. This was implemented to add more meaning to the WCC for the country's top teams looking for the ultimate challenge of facing the nation’s best!
Each teams’ performance will be tracked by the MCFFU and USSSA as they compete on the circuit. National Invitational’s (NIT) will often be added to the circuit as organizations and individuals begin to add their sanctioned event to the WCC (All sanctioned events will be announced and posted on the MCFFU site).
Sanctioned events are limited per area/region as to not saturate any region with tournaments, providing an equal opportunity for all teams to accumulate the necessary points needed to make the Pro Division in the World Championships or improve their seeding it the other divisions.
Approval of an event will be based on the location and dates of any added tournament.
Styles on the WCC will include:
- Ineligible (Men and Women)
- Eligible - Contact (Men and Women)
- Screen - Non-Contact (Men and Women)
The purpose of the WC Circuit is to take competitive flag football mainstream and attract tons of outside interest (participants and sponsors). There are millions of people competing in flag football each year; and there are also millions of individuals not competing in flag football that otherwise would if they were attracted to the game by the game.
If the sport is to grow and move into the next level of competition and national recognition it must first be presented and promoted properly; and no other national organization understands this more than the MCFFU. Welcome to the new era of competitive flag football…
