MCFFU History and Timeline...

 

 

MAY 2002 - Jey Jones and Brian Alford started the Georgia Competitor - later to become the Metro Competitor; an amateur sports newspaper in Atlanta, GA that focused on youth sports, adult amateur sports and local professional and college sports in the metro Atlanta area.

September 2002 - The Metro Competitor purchased the AFTFL (Atlanta Flag Football League) from David Mack, Southern Regional Director of the AFTFL (American Flag and Touch Football League) and started the first Metro Competitor FLag Football League (MCFFL) for 8v8 and 7v7.

March 2003 - The MCFFL hosted the 1st tournament (March Madness) at Burdetter Sports Fields in Atlanta, GA with 12 8v8 teams competing.  The DC Dolphins (DC) def. The Untouchables (LA) 18-13 and took home the first cash prize offered by the MCFFL of $1500.  Tournament MVP was Pete Outz (QB)

March 2004 - the MCFFL was changed to the MCFFU (Metro Competitor Flag Football Union) and partnered with Reggie Tisdell of the Bakersfield Flag Football Association. This took place during the 2nd March Madness tournament in Atlanta, GA.

January 2005 - The MCFFU hosted the 1st Annual Western National Championships in Las Vegas, NV on MLK weekend. There were a total of 65 teams competing in 8v8 Eligible in 3 separate divisions. 

July 2005 - the MCFFU hosted its first $10,000 Bakersfield Invitational cash tournament.  Reggie Tisdell awarded the 1st place cash prize to both the Houston Sleepers.

March 2006 - the MCFFU hosted the 1st annual Flag Football World Championships in Dallas, TX for 8v8 Eligible.  This was the 1st time a tournament featured over 12 National Champions, from multiple regions.  All-Met (MD) def. The Houston Sleepers (TX) 20-0 in frigid temperatures and record rain that flooded the city of Dallas on the final day of the tournament.

January 2009 - the 1st Annual 9v9 World Championships was held in Sanford, FL just north of Orlando, FL. A record 26 teams competed and the Baltimore Packers (MD) def. Real Deal (NJ) 13-7 (OT).

January 2009 - The Western National Championships was moved from Las Vegas, NV to San Diego, CA.

March 2009 - The World Championships was moved from Dallas, TX to Las Vegas, NV.

January 2010 - The 9-Man Ineligible World Championships was moved from Sanford, FL to Miami, FL at the Boward County Regional Sports Complex.

March 2010 - The 1st Annual Super Series - 9v9 Ineligible State Team competing in Las Vegas, NV.
