2010 Charlotte NIT Results - May 22-23

CHARLOTTE, NC - Last year the Hot Boys (TX) was the hottest team on the 9v9 Circuit, before falling short in the World Championships. This years' version of the Hot Boys is Long Islands' Main Event; who have come out swinging; winning the first 2 NIT's on the circuit and are heading to Charlotte with visions of making it 3 in a row!
After a disappointing finish in the 2010 Miami World Championships and hearing the whispers of major roster changes on the horizon, QB Henry Ford has righted the Main Event ship and has them 50 points away from the USA Circuits' #1 spot.
Though Main Event is traveling the farthest, and despite a strong representation from the South, M.E. remains the early favorites to win the Charlotte NIT and make it 3 in a row; giving them the top seed in the USA Summer Championships in Williamsburg, VA on June 26-27, 2010.
On the other hand, Charlotte teams will have a chance to make a strong statement and showing that they can compete on the Pro-level. Earning "Circuit Respect" begins at home; should Charlotte find a way to fend off Main Event, the Packers, ATL Super Stars and others and keep the Charlotte NIT title at home - "Circuit Respect" will be well deserved.
Other things to watch in Charlotte will be the return of ATL Connection (ATL Super Stars) and living up to high expectations of their past. Seeing ifthe Gladiators (NY) can finally get on track after splitting from a somewhat successful team to start anew; the 2-Time World Champion Baltimore Packers putting to rest all rumors of age and internal issues as reason for a slow start and can the 9v9 Pro Open WC Champs (DA Show) protect their house and prove they belong in the top 16...

SCORPIONS 19
In the game of the day to this point SIE and QB Rich Ferriggi scored and converted the 2 point conversion with 16 seconds remaining to secure the comeback win. WR Damian Mangano hauled in 3 TD passes in the win. The Scorpions thought they had secured the win with a pick-6 by CB Dominick with a minute remaining but mental errors let SIE back in the game and Ferriggi and Co capitalized to earn the victory

SCORPIONS 20
SIE 19

QUARTER FINALS
PACKERS 21

MAIN EVENT (NY) 24
MAIN EVENT (NC). 0
In the "Name Game" New York's ME showed the south's version who's boss. Main Event (NY) scored in every way returning a punt, taking an interception back for a TD and getting 2 scores through the air in an impressive win
GLADIATORS 27
SIE 6
The Charlotte heat and to much Naleon Green was the difference as an undermanned SIE fell to the Gladiators. Green threw for 4 TD's and numerous big plays, and Sunday addition Anthony Crabtree made a play from nearly every position on the field. SIE WR Damian scored the lone TD, his 5th of the tournament.
DA SHOW 24
RYDEOUT 6
Da Show continued to show who's the top team from Charlotte with another convincing win. DE Christian "Hulk" Hall had 2 sacks and was in the backfield what seemed to be every play. The offense was led by QB Maseo Bolin's steady play and 3 TD passes.
SEMI-FINALS
PACKERS 21
GLADIATORS 12
The Packers 4-down defensive front forced 2 costly redzone turnovers from the Gladiators and the offense made them pay following each. Tremendous blocking allowed DJ enough time to pick apart the D as he tossed 2 TD scores and controlled the time of possession. The Gladiators battled and seem to have turned the corner as a legitimate threat.
DA SHOW 7
MAIN EVENT 6
Defense was the name of the game as both teams forced numerous 3 and outs. It appeared that Main Event had gained control with a TD reception by Grayson Johnton with just under 4 minutes remaining but the XP attempt was blocked. Da Show responded quickly as Masio Bolin found the endzone and converted the kick. Main Event drove back to Da Show's 3 yard line but after a goal line stand and botched snap Main Events FG attempt was blocked by Clyde Logan
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The Charlotte NIT's championship game came down to a battle between last years MCFFU 9-man Ineligible PRO and OPEN WORLD CHAMPIONS. Most would assume the PRO Champion Packers would win in convincing fashion, however Da Show was determined to prove that the designation as an OPEN team was last years news.
Da show set the tone defensively when the Packers chose to go for it on 4th and long inside their own 40 by sacking DJ and handing the ball over to their offense on the 25 yd line. 4 plays later they were in the endzone on a 12 yd Maseo Bolin TD pass. As they had done all weekend long the Packers used a quick strike, big play attack to tie the score at 7 in what felt like a blink of an eye. The teams alternated defensive strongholds before the Pack put together a strong drive before the half but Da Shows defense was able to keep DJ and crew out of the endzone settling on a FG and a 10-7 Packers lead at the Half.
Both teams had their eay offensively in the second half moving up and down the field with relative ease swapping TD passes on 4 consecutive possessions. When Dj connected with Rich for a 15 yd scoring strike with just under a minute remaining it looked as though the Pack would prevail, but as they had done in a Semifinal win over Main Event, Da Show used a solid kick return put their leader in position for the win........Bolin avoided a big time pass rush on back to back completions and got his team inside the Packer 20 before finally connecting with WR #80 with just 7 seconds remaining putting his team ahead by 4, 28-24. The Packers had time for 1 play but a sack as time expired sealed the upset win for Charlottes own Da Show.
