Could Vawn Sims be the Best QB on the USA Circuit?

The debate about who may be the games best QB can be argued on several different levels; and because competitive flag football offers so many different styles, a QB that maybe good for one style is not necessarily good in another style.

Due to the lack of official stats, QB’s are judged not only by the number of total tournament wins they accumulate, but also by the strength of competition in those events.  9-Man Ineligible boasts several top-tier QBs beginning with Henry Ford of Main Event (NY) who has his team undefeated at 11-0 and winners of the first two 9v9 Ineligible tournaments on the 2010 USA Circuit.

Other QBs include Mike DeMartielere out of Pennsylvania who burst on the Circuit after leading the Blue Dogs (PA) to two championship games in both the St Patrick’s Day NIT in New York and the Connecticut NIT.  DeMartielere fell short in both match-ups to, you guessed it, Main Events’ Henry Ford.  And of course we have to include QB Donnie “DJ” Johnson of the reigning 2-Time 9v9 Ineligible World Champions and Scottie Mac, QB of the 3-Time 8-Man Eligible World Champion Long Beach All-Stars (CA).

But of all the current QB’s, only one is currently heading two elite teams in two different styles with a legit chance of winning 2 World Titles in both.  Vawn Sims, QB of 8v8 Eligible Yung Crew, has been on a tear on the 8-man Eligible side of the ball; winning everything in sight in 8man Eligible play in 2009-10 in the East and Southern region.  Sims will now be throwing the rock for the ATL Super Stars (GA), formerly ATL Connection who will make their season debut back on the USA 9v9 Circuit later this month in Charlotte. Sims previously lead ATL Connection to a 9v9 Ineligible National title in 2005, and recently won an 8-man National title this past January.  Now he has his eyes set on a 9man World Title along with his first 8v8 Eligible World Title in 2010-11.

Beginning with the Charlotte NIT, Sims will have a chance to establish himself as one the best when he faces off with both Henry Ford (Main Event) and Donnie Johnson (Baltimore Packers) in a must win situation for ATL.  The ATL Super Stars are currently unranked in 9v9 Ineligible and anything less than a final 4 appearance will make their road to Miami extremely tough.

This will then be followed by the single most anticipated game in competitive flag football this year - the USA Summer Championships in Williamsburg, VA when Sims will lead Yung Crew in the "Hall of Fame Game" against the 3-Time World Champions Long Beach All-Stars and QB Scottie Mac.

This battle at the Warhill Sports Complex will feature the best two 8man teams in the country – period.  It’s safe to say that Vawn is one of many elite QB’s on the USA Circuit, however over the next two months he will have a chance to make a huge statement against some of the games best QB’s, in two different styles and make his argument as being the games best today.
