Who is the Metro Competitor Flag Football Union?
The MCFFU is a non-profit organization committed to the support and development of competitive flag football nationally.  It is founded on the belief that solid, successful flag leagues and organizations, which are in the business of competitive team and tournament development, working in unison will create an organization of their own to foster growth, address concerns, sanction and provide tournaments that place the teams and players first and far most above anything else all the while working to bring a true Nationals to the flag community that involves all parts of the country.

A select Board of Directors, who are experienced coaches, players, directors and/or owners from around the country, make all policy decisions, rules and regulations for the organization.  The MCFFU is run by an Executive Board of Directors and assisted by a staff of league and/or organization owners and operators.  The administrative office is based in Atlanta, GA with a second office in Bakersfield, CA along with regional staff in five additional locations.

While our core membership consists of highly competitive teams and travel leagues that compete on a national level year-round, we also promote and sanction less competitive styles of play, such as recreational leagues and youth programs.

The MCFFU is not only into promoting and developing the game of flag football, but also promoting and feeding off of the success of current flag footballers and organizations who not only know the game and the business of flag, but understand the importance of the teams and players.

MCFFU Philosophy
Our philosophy is that solid leagues, organizations and teams are the key to the development of a National flag football organization.

We have spent too much time governing and dividing competitive flag football rather than uniting and encouraging its growth.  The business of the day-to-day development of top teams rests with the competitive leagues and regional organizations.  A business-friendly environment must be created to develop programs and services which assist the teams, players and organizations, provide a minimum of rules and regulations to assure basic fairness, and allow teams the flexibility to build and participate in programs that meet their needs.

We firmly believe that independent organizations and teams must work together to grow a system that will include all parts of the country.  This includes speaking with a collective voice on important issues affecting the game; assisting teams organizationally and technically through our committee, staff, and services programs; and coordinating league and tournament development with national teams and organizations.

An important part of our Union member meetings will be to elicit feedback on what programs and services leagues, teams and players want to see, and to implement these programs over time if they aid to the overall development of flag football nationally.

Further, the MCFFU, through its regional representatives always stands ready to assist leagues and organizations with specific questions and problems, including putting them in touch with other leagues and organizations that have experienced a similar situation.

If you agree with the concept of an organization exclusively for competitive flag football of various levels, we welcome you to join us. If you have further questions contact us online or call us at 770-732-1111. If you want to be placed on our mailing list, please sign up here.

Competition
MCFFU believes an important aspect of the development of competitive flag football is offering the right competitions for the right groups. Teams need the opportunity to test themselves against other quality teams at or just above their own competitive level in order to help them develop both their technical and tactical sophistication. We strive to provide our members with competitions that aid team development and growth.

Our signature competition, The National Tournament Series, is contested by multiple styles of play in three competitive divisions. The three-division format (Super, Open and Recreational) attempts to ensure all National matches are tightly contested and brings out the best in every team.

State Tournaments are also among MCFFU’s offerings. Hosted by member organizations and leagues, the MCFFU State Tournament series seeks to provide an alternative to the current "State Tourney’s" in appropriate states and regions. Highlights of the MCFFU’s State Tournaments include complete compensation for local league owners and operators, different levels of competition, prize flexibility, and a schedule and format that are designed in consultation with the Union.

January 2006 will mark the inaugural League Championships – Western and Eastern Divisions.  The Western Championships will be held in Las Vegas, NV while the Eastern Championships will be held in Miami, FL both with multiple styles, cash and travel expenses awarded to select divisions.  The League Championships will bring together the best of the United States top teams from the West, East and Central to compete for the Nationals in Dallas, TX in March 2006 and a chance to win up to $5000 in cash!

Feeding into the League Championships will be a series of State, Qualifiers and Regional tournaments.  The State and Qualifiers will be held in multiple places at various times awarding “Potential Cash Earning Points”, cash prizes and travel expenses.  As for the Regional(s); the location of the are as follows:  Atlantic Division (Washington, DC), Southern Division (Atlanta, GA), Central Division (Kansas City, MO) and Western Division (Phoenix, AZ).  Here the winners will earn top seeding in the Championships, cash prize and travel expenses.

The MCFFU, member of The Metro Competitor, is also in the process of developing an event for competitive teams across the country - the Ultimate Tournament, the Original Tri-Athlete Games.   Here teams of only 12 players will compete in screen flag football (7-Man), basketball (5-on-5) and softball in one weekend, playing 3 games of each sport on 3 separate days for a cash prize and a chance to play in the Nationals!  Details are on www.metrocompetitor.com.

In addition to our own competitions, we offer our members a Tournament Sanctioning Program. This tournament sanctioning program allows both MCFFU sanctioned teams and leagues registered with Union to participate in hosting their own tournaments. The program allows Union members to host their own local tournaments by hosting either a State or Qualifier.  For details contact the Union to receive your package.

The MCFFU also facilitates Challenge Series events for our members.  These are friendly, informal competitions, where 6 to 12 team participants determine the dates, and opponents.  Here teams are able to literally call out another opponent in a direct challenge for bids, points and prizes.  Challenge Series matches are often held to fill “holes” in the Union’s competition schedule.  In every competition we run, we seek to help every team get the most out of their money and time!

Services for Union Leagues:
The MCFFU provides its league members with a number of services beyond simply sanctioning their leagues:

Tournament sanctioning is available to all Union and non-Union leagues and its member teams.  Whether your league wants to hold a season-ending tournament, an indoor tournament during the off-season or a member team is hosting a holiday tournament; MCFFU can provide tournament sanctioning for your event.

Some larger leagues have even begun hosting MCFFU sanctioned Qualifiers.  These competitions are open to any team who is or does register with the Union.  Here “Potential Earning Points” are awarded for the Championships and Nationals as well as cash/travel expenses and seeding.

While any member or league member is eligible for the MCFFU Nationals, league-qualifying tournaments for The Nationals will also be sanctioned by a variety of State and Qualifier tournaments hosted nationally.  Winners of our qualifying tournaments will be given preferential seeds at the MCFFU Regional(s), Championships or Nationals.

Coaches of league member teams can receive a discount on MCFFU Sporting Goods and other items and services.  (Ask league for details)

Any league teams participating in a Union sanctioned league can become a full Union member.  By becoming a full member a team can vote in MCFFU’s Board of Directors elections and other pertinent issues.  A team vote counts as one single vote.
