Utah State Tournament Preview
St. George, Utah
On December 2, Utah will be hosting the first MCFFU State tournament in St. George, UT, located just south of Salt Lake City, UT. Chuck Conover, QB of
Quick 6, will direct the tournament.
The Utah State Tournament will display some of Utah’s best including Quick 6, Demolition, Platinum Hornets, UVU (Utah Valley United) and Cell Block 9, as well as top talent from other areas such as TMT (2005-06 WNC Las Vegas B League
Champs), Toros and Sickwidit to name a few.
Strong representation will come from the UFA (Utah Flag Association), Utah’s largest competitive adult flag football league consisting of over 75 teams.
The UFA has a solid base of BYU, University of Utah, former NFL and CFL players
to compliment the states other sources of talent.
With growing outside interest from surrounding cities, the UFA is expected to
reach new heights in team participation in 2007 and produce more teams
competing on the national circuit for years to come!
Teams to Watch:
UVU (Utah Valley United) is a young team consisting of players from the local arena team Utah Blaze and players formerly of BYU. They will be representing the state of Utah in the Pro Division in the 2006-07 WNC in Las Vegas and looking to get more involved in national tournament participation.
The Platinum Hornets is another Utah-based team looking to participate in
national tournament play and will be representing Utah in the Competitive
division in the WNC. Look for them on the Pro level in the near future.
Tournament Favorite:
Quick 6 (UT) is the tournament favorite, even without the services of QB Chuck
Conover (due to injury). Solid backup QB surrounded by a tournament tested
team gives them the edge in the Utah States. If Quick 6 is eliminated, it will
be at the hands of a team that is familiar with their style of play, so look
for a strong push from in-state rival UVU (Utah Valley United) who can make a
huge statement with a win.
Interesting Notes:
Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith was a member of the UFA
