Top 10 Team Names These teams were ranked as having the most recognized team names not only in their primary style and region, but nationally. This is not a top 10 ranking based on who is the best team, but who’s name possess the most brand equity; most nationally known currently. Teams that have played and won in multiple styles obviously have an edge on teams that play only 1 style. 10. Titans (NY)/Packers (MD) – 9-Man IneligibleHere we have a tie between the Titans (NY) and the Packers (MD). The Titans, who currently reign as a National Champion are recognized as one of the best in 9-Man currently playing, giving them a possible edge of the Packers. The Packers however, who are 2-Time National Champs, also possess a certain aura about them that have them known by many. With 9-Man being one of the least popular styles nationally, hurts most of these teams from being noticed in other styles. 9. Brothers AC – 8-Man Eligible and 9-ManThey don’t travel much these days, but when they do they make their presences felt. The Brothers AC is one of the only teams on record to have won both a 9-Man and 8-Man National Title. Possibly the oldest flag organization with 50+ years of flag and touch experience, BAC is known in multiple styles across the country. Not as well known as once before, winning a National title in 2004 helped resurrect the name of the Brothers in the competitive flag community. 8. ATL Connection/Soul Patrol (GA) – 9-Man IneligibleATL Connection is known for their competitive on field play as well as their off the field activities. Had they not changed their name from Soul Patrol to ATL Connection, they could possibly be higher up on our list. They are not the best 9-Man team playing, but possess a certain charisma that can make for a strong draw in most tournaments. 7. Line Master Raiders (OH) – 8-Man Elig. and ScreenThe LM Raiders (OSU Raiders) are another team that has crossed over from screen to contact and have held more than their own. The Raiders have several screen and contact titles under the belts making them a marquee name nationally and can add value to a tournament. 6. Houston Sleeper (TX) One Texas’ most popular teams, the Sleepers who play both 8-man Screen and 8-Man Eligible won a National Title in the AFA. They are mostly known in the Central and Western regions and have won several Texas tournaments and most recently topped the pool in the MCFFU’s 1 st Annual $10k Tournament giving them a little more notoriety in 8-Man Eligible nationally. Coming out of one of the most populated flag football states also helps their cause. 5. Swarm (CA) – 8-Man Eligible and 5-ManSwarm is one of the most well-known and respected teams not only in California, but nationally. Lead by Jimi Dutra, one of flags most popular QB’s and their consistency over the last few years on the National scene has given Swarm an edge over others. Swarm is another definite tournament draw. 4. DC Dolphins (DC) - 8-Man Eligible and 5-ManDolphins, who are as known for their great QB’s as much as their winning ways make the top 10. From Pete Outz to Troy “Triz” Hester to Mike Grigsby, the DC Dolphins are always at or near the center of attention wherever they go. Another frequent traveler on the competitive flag circuit, their consistency has made them one of the most recognized names at any tournament. 3. All-Met (MD) – 8-Man Eligible and 8-Man IneligibleComing from the B division and playing in the shadows of other DC/MD teams over the years, All-Met increased their equity by frequently traveling out side of their region, including Las Vegas, NV. Currently considered as one of the top teams in 8-Man Eligible, they are known for their physical play and operating as an independent organization. 9-Man and 8-Man Ineligible are also styles All-Met have or are currently competing in. Their diversity in multiple styles has them listed high on the list as one of the most recognized teams in the country. 2. Untouchables/Flag Sport (GA) – 8-Man Elig & ScreenThe Untouchables/Flag Sport gained their fame in the screen game and numerous battles the Hitmen over the years. Like the Hitmen, the Untouchables expanded their National recognition when they recently crossed over to the 8-Man Eligible (contact) style. Not as popular as the Hitmen in the contact style, but still regarded as one of the countries best screen teams. However, their tournament participation has slowed a bit in the recent months.
1. Hitmen (LA) – 8-Man Eligible and ScreenThe New Orleans Hitmen have made a name for themselves over the years by winning multiple screen Nationals and tournaments. 5-Man, 6-Man, 7-Man, 8-Man, you name it and chances are they’ve played it and won it. Regardless of the style of play, you will always find them among the last teams playing in just about any tournament. Participating in multiple of styles, traveling frequently accompanied by a ton winning places the N.O. Hitmen at the top of the list. |
