Reg E. Roland
Atlantic Regional Director

W.W. Media Group, Inc.

Chief Operations Officer - Reg E. Roland

From Dreams To Reality

If there were an instructional manual entitled "How to Become a Sports Marketing Executive"; Reg E. Roland would have re-written it. In his tenure with W.W. Media Group, Inc. organization, Reg E. Roland has become a pioneer of adult-amateur sports marketing as well as becoming a highly respected leader in the event production industry.

As Chief Operations Officer of W.W. Media Group, Inc, Roland oversees the day-to-day operations for the for the multi-faceted sports and marketing company including: Weekend Warrior Flag Football Assoc., the Weekend Warrior Corporate Volleyball Leagues, Gimmiesports.com, Partnership and New Business Development, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Community Relations.

Once a business consultant for the firm, Roland joined the organization in 1997 as the Manager of Special Events. Since that time, his meteoric rise to the top of the diverse sports and entertainment firm has been highlighted by numerous groundbreaking achievements in the field of sports and entertainment marketing.

His trademark of proactive customer service resurrected the organization in nearly every business category when Roland took over operations of the organization. Roland began heading operation at a time when the relationship between the front office staff and season participants was virtually non-existent.

"They complained that the only time they heard from us was when their league fees were due," said Roland.

As a result of the amateur athletes concern, Roland quickly initiated communication to ensure their voices were heard. Since, the energetic Roland has created numerous ideas to form positive relationships with the players, corporate sponsors, community, and the media.  The athletes are now promoted as positive role models for the youth in their communities.

Roland adds,I feel that by acknowledging these people we can encourage others to play while giving children athletic role models they can see, hear, and touch without paying.  The amateur/recreational athlete recognizes the personal benefits of sports participation and an active lifestyle, which can enhance character development, discipline, improved confidence, self-esteem, and overall well being.

In addition to delivering superb customer service to league participants, he works diligently with his staff to create the best game promotions to keep fans coming back. One of the needs the players had was a better location that would be more convenient.  “We acquired fields closer to where the players live and work.  They wanted their families, friends, and co-workers to share the game they had loved for years.  The best way to share this love was to bring the game closer to the people who loved them," said Roland.

Roland has incorporated a marketing philosophy that provides profitable results, but at the same time generates excitement and visibility to the athletes and their community. In his first season handling the WWFFA activities, the league experienced the largest revenue year in the history of the Virginia flag football all the while increasing the level of competition.

In addition, that year the league achieved the highest renewal rate of season participants ever by the franchise, including the local league run by the president of the State Association. During the Spring ’01 season campaign, the WWFFA maxed-out a league record for number of teams with 16, and increased the record for average attendance by nearly 50% fans. The league is one of the largest in the Mid-Atlantic region.  The association also conducts free youth clinics and makes donations to several youth groups and organizations.

Roland’s magic has continued with Gimmiesports.com, as over several thousands sport fans have visited the website focusing on the “weekend warrior”. In addition to the sporting events, Roland’s marketing team promotes non-profit groups, political campaigns and family-oriented events throughout each year.

"He is brilliant.  He can take dream or concept and then make it work," said Glenn P. Thomas II, President of W.W. Media Group. "He is full of innovative ideas and he works very hard. He sets an example to his colleagues because he is very, very tough, but very fair.”

In his vast experience in marketing and promoting ideas and events in the public and private sectors,    Reg E. Roland has worked with non-profit groups, government agencies, convention & visitor’s bureaus, chamber of commerce, schools, church and civic groups.  Some include the Department of Parks and Recreation, Special Olympics of Virginia, Virginia Blood Services, the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, the Metropolitan Business League, the Tom Joyner Foundation, the National Black Farmers Association, Diamonds in the Rough, Johnny Newman’s Youth Foundation, and Generation Excellence for Youth.
