History of the MCFFU Pacific Nationals
TOURNAMENT DETAILS AND TEAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION The 2008 Pacific Nationals will be played in Temecula, California at the beautiful Pat Birdstall Complex, which features four synthetic playing fields on July 12-13. Temecula is located just 45 minutes north of San Diego and offers a casino; wine country and other amenities for players and their families to partake in. Individuals looking for a little more; San Diego offers several beautiful beaches, amusement parks and a ton of nightlife that is like no other. Since its inception, the MCFFU Pacific Nationals (formerly known as the Great California Gold Rush) has paid out over $13,000 in cash payouts! The Pacific Nationals has always had some of the best competition, this side of the Western National Championships in Las Vegas. The Pacific Nationals have attracted teams from Texas, Denver, Las Vegas, Oregon, Arizona and the best California has to offer. The inaugural tournament was held in Bakersfield, California in 2005. Only one word to describe that one… HOT! With the temperatures exceeding 100 degrees for the weekend, the Houston Sleepers exploded on the flag football map by defeating the Denver Gamblers and taking home $6,000 cash, while the 2nd place Denver Gamblers collected $2000. That tournament field included SD Swarm, Long Beach All-Stars, 8 Ballers, Team Xavix, NX Level Devils, 1st Choice and Daygo Funhouse just to name a few who competed in one of the best tournaments held in California in recent years. The MCFFU Pacific Nationals was then move to Los Angles in 2006, where ACE (Denver, CO) and TMT (Las Vegas, NV) both gained national respect for their play as they both had big wins over some top-tier teams and finishing among the top of the tournament field. The tournament was won by San Diego’s, Daygo Funhouse, who took home $4000 and a top seed in to the WNC. In 2007, the Open Division was added to the Pacific Nationals to extend the field and Cali-Chaos (a mix of players from Total Chaos and Team Cali) from the Flash Football League in San Jose (CA) took home the gold. Total Chaos went on to parlay this victory into a championship in the 2007 Las Vegas Western National Championships. The Long Beach All-Stars took the title and the cash in the Pro division, which proved to be the first step on their way to the WNC and WC3 titles. This year’s San Diego NIT will be played with World Championship rules; each team will play three games on Saturday, followed with the top teams (number teams advancing based total team entry) playing in the single elimination rounds on Sunday. The defending World Championships of 8-Man Eligible, the Long Beach All-Stars fresh off one of the most dominating flag football seasons put together should be tested early and often. Also accompanying the 2007-08 WC Champs (LB All-Stars) in the Pro Division will be the 2006 Champs Daygo Funhouse (CA), Quick 6 (UT), Scatbacks (TX), Denver’s ACE, TMT (NV) and the South Bay Ballers (CA). The Open Division will be wide open this year as Carson's Team USO looks to make their move to the PRO division in 2008 with an impressive showing in this year’s Open division. The reigning champs, Total Chaos will be out to defend their title and prove that last year’s win was no fluke, and Taco Surf will be looking to return to action to make some waves. Two of the last three winners of this tournament have gone on to win the Las Vegas Western Nationals. For those looking to see what the best of the West has to offer, look no further than San Diego, CA – July 12-13 this summer. The 2008 Pacific Nationals will be a showcase for the West’s best and the front-runner heading into the 2009 Western National Championships in Las Vegas, NV.
