2008 Gulf National Invitational The 1st Annual MCFFU/USSSA Gulf Nationals was a great success for the Union and all who participated. Teams included: The D.O.C., Lockdown, The 504 Boyz, Monsters, STELLUM, Traction, Donkey Squad, Red Lords, The Business, and American Safety competed to position themselves for the 7-Man Screen World Championships in Gulfport, MS on March 29-30. This tourney had it all from great teams to great competition to great weather.
But most importantly, the tourney was utilized to do something special and noble for a great young man by the name of Sean Ferrara. Sean was recently paralyzed during action in a flag football game in Orlando this past January and teams and players from all over have been continuously reaching out with prayer, support and financial assistance.
A portion of every team’s registration fee into the MCFFU Gulf Nationals was donated to Sean and his family. Living Faith Christian Center, a local church in Baton Rouge (LA), also made a monetary donation as well.
Sean’s family was in attendance working concessions as many of the participating players provided additional private donations. The Monsters (LA) defeated D.O.C. (LA) in the Championship game and promptly donated $700.00 of their tournament prize money to Sean and his family. Special thanks go out to the Monsters and Tournament Director Will Bates from the Union and the rest of the flag football community.
In all, the tournament was able to raise over $1200.00 for Sean and his family over the weekend. If you would like to make a donation to Sean and his family, simply call 225-573-7453 or contact Will Bates at wbates@mcffu.com. |
