Got Nerves?
Do you remember the first day of football practice in high school or college? Do you remember the birth of your first child or your first day on the job? Can you recall why you were so nervous? More than likely you were nervous because it was a major event in your life and you were unsure of what to expect. You surveyed your environment and began to doubt your ability to compete and wondered if this was really for you.
However, your competitive spirit did not allow you to just walk away from something you were dedicated and passionate about. You chose to stand for your beliefs and manage your self-doubts by deciding to compete and putting your best foot forward. No matter the negative influences surrounding you during your daily journeys, the momentum established through everyday consistency provided strength to persevere the potential setbacks. After you accomplished your goals you were able to look back at your travels and gain an understanding of the type of person you truly are.
That gentleman will be the MCFFU in five years. Do not mistaken me, I am not putting the destination in front of the journey, I am simply trying to make you all aware of the feelings involved at the beginning of something new and the determination it took to succeed. In order for the Union to succeed, every MCFFU Member, team and individual, must stand firm on our beliefs and persevere the many challenges that lay ahead.
That’s the way this country was built, from our ancestors who signed the Declaration of Independence to Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, they all began an unbelievable journey many thought could not be accomplished. They all were hated by entities that held control for so many years simply because they demanded change and took it upon themselves to make it happen no matter the consequences. I realize our quest to improve flag football pales in comparison to the aforementioned historic accomplishments, but we must understand the pitfalls we’ll encounter in route to getting this thing off the ground. What will help us during our travels is never losing site of the reason why the MCFFU was established.
Everything the MCFFU stands for will be criticized and attacked either directly in its face or behind its back by those who wish for it not to succeed. Tactics to sabotage its purpose and supporting agenda’s will be blindsided by the organizations whose comfort is jeopardized. We must not get distracted by those tactics and reduce ourselves to their classless acts by retaliating. We must firmly believe in our quest and stay true to the course.
The methods used by those who are threatened by our mere existence will ultimately return as the sword that damage’s their credibility. But until then, we must settle our nerves, unite and truly believe in our existence as the MCFFU. Be prepared for the long haul and not waver when agenda’s don’t quite live up to our goals. Continue to recruit players, teams and leagues that seek alternatives to what’s being provided in our community.
If teams wish to continue with the older organizations, we will not hold that against them, in fact we encourage it because we believe in our services. Teams will return to the Union when it has the chance to play and compare. And if those other organizations decide to change their tactics to a friendlier environment toward its Members, then we have still conquered because the Union has accomplished its goal of improving the game for the players all over.
For if he is weak, so shall be the Union……….
