The State of Utah Flag Football Chuck Conover, QB/coach of one of the countries top 8-Man Eligible teams Quick 6 (UT), MCFFU State Representative as well as the owner of the new Utah Flag Football league will be hosting the Annual MCFFU Pacific Mountain Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah each August.
The Salt Lake City area features 8-Man eligible and 5-Man styles of play and currently has an estimated 15-20 8-Man teams and upwards of 30 5-Man teams competing in league and local tournament play. Chuck’s goal is host a one of the countries biggest tournaments and show the country what Utah is about both on and off the field.
When asked why teams should participate in the Pacific Mountain Nationals Chuck stated, “There will be quality teams, fields, refs and plenty of things to do off the field with tournament sponsors such as Club BLISS and more importantly more than enough top-level competitive teams to play against”. Teams competing in the Pacific Nationals can expect to experience SLC’s nice weather and great nightlife.
Chuck believes that Utah will feature more national competitive teams in the upcoming years in both 8-Man Eligible and 5-Man. “There are at least 6 teams that compete on the national level right now and the interest in World Championship play is peeking in Utah; Quick 6 recently finished last in the local league for the first time this past season if that tells you anything.”
One of Chuck’s goals is to team with the MCFFU to help the flag football sport grow by attracting more national sponsors to the sport and producing some of the best flag teams in the country representing the state of Utah. “Flag in this region is very strong and it is just about to the point where you will have 10 teams from Utah in the WNC (Western National Championships) and 20 5 on 5 teams participating and several looking to compete at the WC. All the college players are turning to (flag) rather than other outdoor sports, which are watered down”. When asked where he envisions competitive flag football in the next few year, Chuck stated, “I would like to take flag in Utah to the next level where teams compete all year for the right to travel (World Championship Circuit) and for the game to need no publicity but its self”. Chuck Conover is one of several individuals across the country teaming with the MCFFU to help take competitive flag football to the next level, both competitively and nationally. Look for Utah to be well represented in national play very soon.. |
